Yellowstone Ski Tours

Noted one recent, nearby slab avalanche. A NE aspect around 10,000'. Photo attached. Avalanche was in a heavily wind affected area, snowpit location was wind sheltered.

Had one large collapse (50'+ diameter), just above snowpit location. Felt I could have remotely triggered a big avalanche with more ridge walking. Very warm temps the past 2 days, with highs in the upper 40's F at 9000'/ Fisher Creek.

Snow structure in this location seemed stronger than in adjacent terrain, and might have been on an old ski track.

-20 deg F at trailhead at 9am. By 1pm we were ski touring in our base layers on solar aspects at 8500'-9,200'.

Upslope wind was eroding the snow on about the top 200' vert of the mountainside- generally a due west wind.

Snowpit by James Hastings. SH layer of concern was audible in the ECTN's. We avoided traveling on any slopes steeper than about 34 degrees.
