Big Sky Ski Patrol

Pit dug at Teton Pass Ski Area with Rob Lee. Blowing snow prevented accurate crystal identification.

Wind loading upslope and downslope. Active loading made crystal identification impossible. Very stiff pack except for the upper New Snow layers. Layer of most concern-wind/storm slab at 95cm.

This is my 3rd or 4th pit in this location. This is by far the best one yet.

Avalanche rated HS-AE-R4-D3-O Crown height averaged 140cm with a maximum measured height of 240cm and a width of 160 feet and total vertical of 500 feet. Alpha angle of 27 degrees. We were only able to get results on DTT with excessive force (35 to 40 hard hits) The ECT was preformed on a more easterly aspect (67 degrees) of the crown wall that was only 1 meter deep. Ski Tracks were visible on the bed surface at the 67 degree aspect location.
