Was curious about the possibility of buried surface hoar, that was observed around Cooke City on March 17 to upper elevations, but did not find it in this location.
We intended to cross bowl and continue to ridge line. Based on snow pit results, and collapsing in the flats on the way in, we declined to continue our intended route. We pulled skins and skied the 25 deg. slope below us.
E. breeze transporting snow on unusual aspect. Stout M/F crust on more Westerly aspect starting at about 9,400 ft.. Noticeable wind effect starting at about 9,400 ft. Numerous point releases and storm slab Av. on W, facing slopes on N. Woody Ridge.
Best results this season on S. aspect. I tried to pick a representative location, but HS varied across slope from 95 cm to 155 cm, with estimated average HS of 130cm.
