Big Sky Ski Patrol

Snowfall rate increased to S1/S2 @1300 and lasted until 1400.

This pit was located downhill and to the skier's right of the hut. There was less wind loading in the trees, which were also low angle. The Little Baldy Loop had evidence of at least 3 recent avalanches and many old debris piles. We observed old crowns below ridge tops.

This pit is the same as Mitch Upton's pit, I am entering it for more practice with SnowPilot.

Winds were calm at the time of the pit profile, but gale force at higher elevations. Old growth trees were falling across the valley, and at least 20 trees were down in the trail as we descended back to the parking lot. Max gust was 89mph at 1500.

Severe wind event. Significant downfall throughout the area in the late afternoon.

The true HS was 350cm, but this pit was only dug 170cm deep. This is the top 170cm of the snowpack.

We did not obtain boot penetration or ski penetration. We also did not obtain snow temperatures.
