Step off the sled and you sink to the ground. It's amazing how there's just enough supportability for the sleds to stay on top. ECTX because the snowpack just crumbles beneath the shovel. In this sheltered spot, it's weak but stable. Add wind-loading and it becomes unstable fast.

Peak 10420 NW Bowl low

Snowpack is full of facets. Surface hoar on the surface but it is laying flat and not a concern. The surface snow is very warm. Many of the faceted layers seem to be rounding a little bit. With the right load, it will find the right layer to make an avalanche, but today was the first where I saw a glimmer of hope for our snowpack. Drew said that I was seeing a mirage - he's probably right. It's wishful thinking.
