Surface snow may be the greatest concern when we get more snow. The presence of surface hoar tells us that faceting is occuring. The "knee" in the temp profile also shows diurnal recyrstallization is likely occurring.

Stability tests didn't break. The snowpack just crumbled beneath the shovel. Faceted snowpack for sure, but not too bad for Uintas.

Looks like the bowl above snow pit avalanched during east wind event on 12/31.

Shallow snow was loose and faceted all over the place

Specifically looking for weakening in a shallow snowpack area. Was surprised at lack of test results. Shovel tap test in upper 30 cm was also negative.

The snowpack overall is pretty weak but not necessarily unstable. You nearly sink to the ground when stepping off the sled. Other aspects at lower elevations have a more supportable slab.

Protected area had little to no wind.
