Observers: Carbonari/Clark Many natural avalanches observed from Feb 3-10 cycle. D1-D2. Rain crust fully supportable and bridging snowpack.

Crown profile for size D3 avalanche that ran early morning on Tuesday Feb 7, 2017. Debris ran ~2200 vertical feet to the railway and highway.

Widespread 8-10 cm 2/9 rain crust exists up to 6700 feet in this location in the Swan Range. 1/19 MF crust and FC above still fractures and propagates with moderate to hard force and is located ~80 cm from snow surface.

Objective: To assess stability and snow structure on low and mid-elevation slopes in the Whitefish Range

Observers: Carbonari/Flint Collapsing occurred on slope while in pit and moving from pit. Natural avalanches occurred on similar slopes, D1, within previous 48 hours. Looked like mostly on steep, wind impacted S to SW slopes. Skiers skied within 50 feet of pit. Quite possible they or we would have triggered an avalanche if on a steeper slope.

Observers: Carbonari/Flint Pit dug to 140 cm. Wind loaded slope below a cornice. No collapsing on NE aspect but localized collapsing on S/SW aspects

Obsservers: Hannan, Carbonari. 2nd pit. Pit only dug to 1 M

Observers: Hannan/Carbonari. Sunny to the North and cloudy to the south. Wind from East increasing.
