Below treeline snowpack still has depth hoar but where HS is greater than 150cm it will take a very big load for failure. Lower elevations below treeline have closer to 1 meter HS and in these locations the entire pack is much weaker.

Southeast aspects in the Ophir zone still have poor structure. This pit was dug 200m away from a recent D2 slide on a similar slope.

Dug on open slope with a south aspect just to the east of the Stanley slide path and similar elevation to the Eyebrow.

Northerly aspects are generally deep and strong. Storm snow instabilities and NSFC buried 50-80cm below the surface are becoming less and less reactive.
