Structurally quite weak, but lacks tension. Future slides that initiate in upper layers likely to step down.

Below treeline terrain is thin and weak. This location has very weak snow near the surface resting on a relatively hard wind slab on top of depth hoar. The wind slab can hold a much larger load and if there is ever a big slab put on top could fail at the ground.
