Red 1 Low North side

This low elevation north snowpit reminds us that the recent warming at the start of April has not transitioned the north, shady slopes to the spring regime yet. This zone will need to adjust during the next significant warming cycle.

Red Mt 1 Northwest

Deep and strong mature snowpack in this zone. Upper meter consists of April snowfall with frozen crust 40cm below the surface. Strong now but if warm up occurs low density surface snow will consolidate into a slab and if crust softens, avalanches are more likely.
